Workshop Lorry

The workshop lorries were equipped to a standard configuration with the machine tools supplied from several different manufacturers. Each workshop was fitted with either a 2 or 4 cylinder engine (manufactured by Douglas, Austin or standard) connected to a dynamo and switchboard on the end wall that provided electric lighting and power to a drill, grinder and lathe (manufactured by Drummond, Holbrook, Colchester or Haigh). At the back of the workshop was a wooden bench with two large vices, and located on the floor was an anvil and portable forge, although these could be used only after they were dismounted. Spare parts were in short supply with used parts sent back to the Base Depot for refurbishment, the workshop lorry allowed the company to fabricate spare parts if the need arose.
